The 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic is being held at the Detroit Golf Club for the fifth year since its inauguration. The track is one of the easier tests on the PGA Tour which will come as a relief after many tough tests in recent months.
A Donald Ross design from 1926, it has all the designer’s characteristics on Bentgrass/Poa Annua greens and fairways of Michigan. What is noticeable despite the many tree-lined fairways, that the penalty for missing fairways is not as severe as most Donald Ross designs bringing the longer hitters into the equation more than normal on one of his tracks.
The Detroit Golf Club is one of the easier stops on the PGA Tour.

Is Ludvig Aberg’s Time Fast Approaching?
Here at Odds Trader, we put up Ludvig Aberg last week for the Travelers Championship for the win at (+12500) and top 20 at (+400). The twenty-three-year-old Swede did us proud all week on his second start eventually finishing 24th.
Recent seasons on the PGA Tour have shown how many of the top amateurs have bridged the gap from collegiate player to PGA Tour professional quicker than ever before.
So, there is no need to jump ship from Ludvig Aberg this week, in fact, the field is noticeably weaker than the Travelers and the course is not as testing.
Those two factors combined with another impressive week have shrunk Ludvig Aberg’s price but I think there’s a decent chance he outclasses most, if not all the field this week.

Is It Jäger Time in Detroit?
This week could easily be Jäger time in Detroit if the German professional puts the pieces together after a recent consistent spell on the PGA Tour.
Last week at the Travelers Championship, the thirty-four-year-old from Munich made his seventh cut in succession in a very consistent campaign.
The only thing missing for Jäger is a first PGA title, but he is not uncomfortable closing events as six wins on the Korn Ferry Tour indicate.
The one category of Jäger’s game that’s been letting him down is his putting but the smallest alteration can change that. Indeed, he enjoyed the greens at the Detroit Golf Club last year when he was seventh in the strokes gained putting category which helped him to a career-best PGA Tour finish of 5th.
Those good vibes and positive memories from last year’s putting display here could be the little push that is needed for Stephan Jäger to win his maiden PGA Tour and Bet365’s price of (+5500) is worth taking.

Land a Spaun Props Bet With J.J.
J.J. Spaun has an interesting profile for me this week at the 2023 Rocker Mortgage Classic.
The thirty-two-year-old Californian has played all four renewals of the event and never finished worse than 32nd.
It has been a solid year of consolidation for Spaun on the PGA tour after his breakthrough win in last year’s Texas Open.
With eight top 25s this campaign, last week’s missed cut is easy to ignore, especially given it was his first week back since the Memorial Tournament, and shooting 1-under for the two days in Connecticut likely sharpened his game nicely.
I really like J.J. Spaun as a props top 20 pick this week, while adding a long-shot bet to a more modest wager.
