3M Open

July 25 – 28, 2024 at TPC Twin Cities

3M Open at TPC Twin Cities

The TPC Twin Cities is one of the easier weeks on the PGA Tour and this year is the sixth renewal of a relatively new PGA Tour event. The par 71 at over 7300 yards, was designed by the late great of the sport, Arnold Palmer with his signature wide fairways.

Look for players who are in form and with a strong Bentgrass putting history for what is a low-scoring test.

Can Cam Make up For Lost Time?

Yes, we believe that Cameron Davis can make up for last week’s lost time when waiting around as first alternate for the Open Championship and the frustration of not getting a start.

The week prior he played the Scottish Open and looked in fine nick when finishing 26th continuing the fine form of his Rocket Mortgage Classic win only two weeks previous.

There are many course and result correlations with that event in Detroit, and unsurprisingly, the young Aussie has a pleasing plethora of form at TPC Twin Cities to back up that theory, with three top 20 finishes in the last four seasons.

It could work out favorably that Cam Davis did not play last week’s Open Championship in the difficult weather of Great Britain and has been able to prepare properly for this week.

Davis had struggled in 2024 before winning, but confidence will still be high from the Rocket Mortgage Classic win and a strong follow-up in Scotland.

With not playing last week, it is possible the tall twenty-nine-year-old has gone below the radar, and Bet365’s price for Cameron Davis at +4000 suggest so.

Don’t Dodge the Defending Champion

Last year’s 3M Open saw a runaway win and first PGA Tour title for Lee Hodges by seven shots and it can be a trend for many punters to avoid the defending champion for many PGA Tour bettors.

We believe there is enough evidence on golf tours around the globe to make this belief a fallacy. Funnily enough, our other pick Cameron Davis has only won two PGA Tour events so far in his short career, both the Rocket Mortgage Classic, so why can’t Lee Hodges do the same this week?

Indeed, returning to the scene of their greatest triumph can be exactly what a sportsman needs, particularly in such a skilled hand-to-eye coordination game as golf.

Hodges has been playing nicely in recent months with an 11th place at the PGA Championship, his best result.

Like Davis, the twenty-nine-year-old from Alabama travelled across the Atlantic for the Scottish Open, hoping to play his way into the Open Championship. And, in a carbon copy fashion, Hodges had a very respectable performance without managing a high enough placing to qualify.

Not playing the Open would have been a disappointment, but the opportunity to travel back early and prepare for his defense of the title this week can only be a bonus.

The icing on the cake for Lee Hodges this week is his price of +6000, which is hugely attractive and good value.
