2024 Charles Schwab Challenge
May 23–26, 2024 at Colonial Golf Course
Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club
The Charles Schwab Challenge is an established event on the PGA Tour dating back to just after the World War in 1946. The Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth was the home of golfing legend Ben Hogan and his statue of him at the completion of his elegant swing at the course serves as a permanent reminder to the players of his nine major championships and legacy within the sport.
The track has small Bentgrass greens, rather like last week’s PGA Championship, so the players in good stroke on the greens will fancy their chances.
The course, however, is a very different test with its tight treelined fairways, many of which are doglegs. Fundamentally, these factors take the advantage power wielded last week at Valhalla out of the equation, instead looking for tee-to-green accuracy from the players and an ability to shape their shots to suit each hole.
Will Kevin Tway Keep the Hot Streak Going?
Kevin Tway is grinding his way back to his best form in recent weeks, the sort of form that he produced when he won his one and only PGA Tour event, the Safeway Open in 2018.
Playing off limited starts, Tway has only managed six starts in 2024 from March onwards, but the thirty-five-year-old from Oklahoma has made them count.
Going Up
There was no real hint of what was ahead for the son of former PGA Championship winner Bob Tway, in his opening two starts of 2024 with one missed cut and a 32nd at the Puerto Rico Open.
Then with his next event again in South America, at the Corales Puntacana, Tway managed a 3rd place finish, and followed it up with 11th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans when partnering Kelly Kraft. On the back of that, Tway managed a 9th place finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson that qualified him for the signature Wells Fargo Championship with a top-5 ranking from that Aon swing of events.
With a week off after missing out on PGA Championship qualification, Tway has an attractive profile this week given some strong previous form at Fort Worth between 2017 and 2019 when he produced form figures of 18th, 5th and 19th.
We believe that Kevin Tway is a very solid top 20 option this week at the Charles Schwab Challange while also adding a more modest investment on the outright market at his long-shot price of +17500 with Bet365
Golf Pick: Kevin Tway to Finish Top 20 (+500)Â at Bet365
Golf Pick: Kevin Tway to Win Outright (+17500) at Bet365
Can Ben Silverman Make It a Fifth Top 20 in 2024?
Canadian journeyman professional, Ben Silverman is threatening to finally break through in the big league.
Back-to-back top 20 finishes earlier in the season at the Mexico Open and Cognizant Classic saw the thirty-six-year-old earning some much-needed FedEx points after registering a top 20 finish on his opening start of 2024 at the Sony Open.
Several poor weeks followed, but his most recent effort at the Myrtle Beach Classic was eye-catching, as Silverman once again found his mojo, eventually finishing 16th.
Silverman has been plying his trade on the Canadian Tour and Korn Ferry Tour for many years and has rarely had his playing privileges on the PGA Tour, but he did however manage a year in the big league in 2018.
Interestingly, his best performance of that season was an 11th here at Colonial and that is encouragement to bet the solid performer this week.
What’s Next for Silverman?
The next question to ask ourselves, is what markets do we bet Ben Silverman in?
Well, the safest option for Ben Silverman is the top 20 market, which Bet365 has at +500.
Silverman has the stats to indicate he is often a fast starter to events, and we suggest a more modest wager on that market this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
