2024 Genesis Scottish Open

July 11 – 14 at Renaissance Club

Despite the Renaissance Club being set on the coast in Scotland, it is far from the typical links and more a built-for-purpose in 2018 amongst coastal parkland. Many of the holes aesthetically resemble traditional golf links, but being purpose-built means purists see them as links-like, not the typical golf links.

The weather forecast is breezy weather throughout the event and wet conditions Thursday so golfers with good wind will flourish.

Erik Van Rooyen Will Enjoy This Week!

We believe that Erik Van Rooyen will be one of the players who really enjoys traveling over from the PGA Tour to Scotland this week.

In the inaugural two Scottish Opens at the Renaissance Club, the thirty-four-year-old from Cape Town in South Africa figured prominently, which is no surprise given the early years of his career being spent over in Europe on the DP World Tour.

This year on the PGA Tour has been solid for Van Rooyen, with four top-10 finishes. This was after a memorable and emotional end to 2023 for Van Rooyen when he won his second PGA event, the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico.

The win came only weeks before the sad passing of his good friend and fellow professional Jon Trasamar who was terminally ill with cancer.

Van Rooyen’s last start was the Travelers championship when he was 6th, so it is the perfect time to support him as he travels across to familiar climbs where he appears ideally suited.

Take Erik Van Rooyen to win the Scottish Open at +7500 combined with a top-10 finish.

Grant Knows His Way Through the Forrest

This week’s props selection is the home nation favourite Grant Forrest who looks perfectly primed to play well and land our bets at the Renaissance Club.

The thirty-one-year-old from Livingston, which is very local to North Berwick and just over an hour away, has made his local knowledge pay twice here in the props markets with two top 20 finishes.

With that context in mind, it was encouraging to see Forrest start fast last week as 2024 has been something of a struggle for the Scot. Therefore, with his Race to Dubai ranking just inside the top 100, which was down to one performance late in 2023 down under at the Australian Open, Forrest will be looking over his shoulder and in need of a solid week to lock up his playing privileges.

This week’s Scottish Open offers the perfect opportunity of a bigger-than-average cheque with the PGA Tour stars competing, so our recommendation is to bet Grant Forrest in the top 20 and top 40 market.

Why Southgate Is a Props Specialist

Matthew Southgate is amazingly still a maiden on the DP World Tour despite a decade of playing the tour. What Southgate is though, is a links and Scottish golf expert who is trending nicely into form.

The thirty-five-year-old from Southend on Sea grew up playing golf on the southwestern coast of England and has an exceptional record in the props markets at the Open Championship.

His affinity with the blue riband event was seen to a great degree last week when he won his qualifying heat for a fifth time in ten attempts. His exploits in the Claret Jug do not end there, as he was 6th in the 2017 Open, 12th in 2016 and 23rd last year.

Until the Open qualifying, Southgate was having a poor year but he backed that up with a strong week at the BMW International Open, where he finished 4th.

The final piece in the jigsaw to bet Matthew Southgate is some decent course form here when he 9th in 2020 followed by 26th the year after
