Philadelphia 76ers vs. New York Knicks
Monday, April 22, 2024 – 07:30 PM ET at Madison Square Garden
Our computers indicate that this will be a high-scoring game, and I agree. That’s one of the reasons why I’ll recommend playing the Over.
Philadelphia’s Game 1 Underachievement
The total for this game is too low.
With the over/under being just under 210 points, the underdog 76ers would theoretically need to score 105 points to help the game go Over. In Game 1, they scored 104 points but could certainly have scored more. And yes, Kyle Lowry probably played a bit beyond himself.
But Buddy Hield, Tobias Harris, Nicolas Batum and Cam Payne are all talented scorers who did nothing or next to nothing.
Making Up for It
Harris averaged over 15 points per game in the regular season. He and Kelly Oubre Jr.‘s improvement in Game 2 will make up for Lowry’s Game 2 decline – Oubre Jr. also averaged over 15 points per game in the regular season.
Hield is a characteristic sharpshooter who can easily make a couple of threes per game. With his first-ever playoff game now behind him, he’ll be ready for Game 2.
Payne showed his scoring talent when he filled in for Chris Paul as a Phoenix Sun.
With Tyrese Maxey doing his usual damage and with Joel Embiid on the court – even when the latter isn’t scoring, he’s making it easier for his teammates to drive and get open shots – Philadelphia’s breadth of scoring talent will help the team exceed 110 points.
New York’s Scoring Talent
The Knicks showed their bench prowess in Game 1, helping them exceed 110 points primarily thanks to strong and efficient three-point shooting. New York benefitted from Philadelphia’s zone defense and yes, the Knicks may have shot beyond themselves in Game 1.
But even if the supporting cast doesn’t shoot as well in Game 2, the Knicks will surely get more out of their key players: Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby.
NBA Computer Pick
Both underachieved in Game 1, with Brunson especially suffering from inefficiency while he was rusty. Their improvement in Game 2 will more than offset any decline experienced by their supporting cast.
NBA Computer Pick: Over 209.5 (-110) at Bet365
