Mariners Can Pounce On Joey Estes
The Oakland Athletics will give Joey Estes one last start this season. The right-hander has struggled all year, including in the previous 30 days. Estes has allowed a .253 ISO and wOBA of .423 while giving up more fly balls than ground balls induced in the last month. He’s also allowed 43% of hard contact and has struck out only 13.5% of batters over the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Mariners have four batters with a high ISO and wOBA against righties. Those four should start rallies against Estes and the Athletics.
No Free Passes For Oakland
It looks like Emerson Hancock will pitch for the Mariners. He’s struggled to add strikeouts and hasn’t even put up good ISO and wOBA numbers. But he’s at least been good at limiting walks.
In addition, Hancock has still added more than 24% of whiffs and 13% of swinging strikes over the last 30 days. His strikeout numbers should increase tonight based on that fact alone.
On the other hand, the Athletics’ bottom of the order has struggled and will likely kill rallies.
