Wednesday night’s Game 5 saw the Canucks eke out a victory with just 33 seconds remaining on a tally by J.T. Miller. However, the Canucks deserved the win after outshooting the Oilers 35-23 and playing a far more physical game. Vancouver registered 42 hits to just 20 by the Oilers, yet won the game by only a goal.
The Pick
There is a goaltending crisis in Edmonton after Stuart Skinner faltered in Game 4, which gave rise to backup Calvin Pickard’s ascension to the starting position. We may see Skinner return on Saturday night but to be fair, Pickard has been solid, albeit unspectacular, in relief.
Although the Canucks have momentum entering this critical Game 6, I am siding with the Oilers.
Edmonton kept Game 5 tight until the very end despite being outplayed at both ends of the ice and I suspect we will see a far more engaged squad playing in front of the home crowd on Saturday night.
