For the Chicago Cubs, yesterday was a disaster. The Cubs lost to the Red Sox, 17-0, after the bullpen struggled to get outs against Boston.
But today’s a new game. It doesn’t matter if you lose 17-0 or 1-0, a loss is a loss, and the next page needs to be flipped.
The Cubs will send out Hayden Wesneski, who has already held batters to a .050 ISO and wOBA of .064 against his first 20 batters of the season. The strikeouts won’t be high, but he’s ultimately really good at earning ground balls against lefties.
Tonight, he’ll take on six lefties in the Boston lineup.
Will Tanner Houck Continue His Dominance?
The Red Sox have a gem in Tanner Houck. The right-handed starter has a 3-2 record and a 1.65 ERA, but those two losses are pretty telling.
Houck hasn’t always been given run support in his starts. That said, Houck also struggled a bit against lefties last season, allowing a .232 ISO and wOBA of .371. It’s likely only a matter of time until the struggles against lefties come back.
