Is Walker Buehler Turning Things Around?
The right-handed veteran, Walker Buehler, has struggled most of the season. Since returning from injury, he’s allowed a .209 ISO and wOBA of .369 to 386 batters.
However, over the last 30 days, Buehler has held 41 batters to a .108 ISO and wOBA of .307. The strikeouts, specifically against lefties, are low. However, he’s added 50% of ground balls and has held opponents to a .25% fly ball percentage and a 15.6% line drive percentage. He’s getting plenty of whiffs against righties, too. Buehler has certainly turned the corner.
Meanwhile, he’ll be in line to face a Yankees lineup that has hit a .172 ISO and wOBA of .322 against righties over the last 30 days. This lineup is hot at the top and not at the bottom of the order.
Gleyber Torres, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Jazz Chisholm have all hit righties well over the last month. However, the bottom portion of the order is inconsistent. Those rally killers typically ruin the Yankees’ chances of winning.

Clarke Schmidt’s Struggles Against Lefties Will Continue
At this point, it’s unclear if we’ll even see Shohei Ohtani in the lineup thanks to a shoulder injury. However, if he’s fine, he’ll be in line for a big game against Clarke Schmidt.
Schmidt has allowed a .296 ISO and wOBA of .451 to his last 35 lefties. He’s also given up 61.9% of hard contact and has walked 17.1% of lefties while only striking out 17.1%.
Schmidt isn’t a high-strikeout pitcher. But he’s still thrown well against righties. The hard contact is still up, and Schmidt’s fly ball percentage has always been high.
The Dodgers have way more consistent power against right-handed pitchers than lefties. Ohtani and Max Muncy are two lefties who have destroyed righties as lefties over the last month.
Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman has found his swing. However, both home runs came against lefties as a left-handed hitter. So he still hasn’t hit a home run against a righty. Still, Freeman could certainly launch one against Schmidt. Again, Schmidt has been dreadful against righties over the last 30 days.

We’re hopeful an extra day of rest will get Shohei Ohtani back in the lineup for Monday’s game after he injured his shoulder late in Game 2 of the World Series. If Ohtani is healthy enough to play, he’ll be a massive threat along with Muncy and Freeman.
In addition, Tommy Edman has gone off as a switch-hitter, and Mookie Betts, Kike Hernandez, and Teoscar Hernandez have all launched extra-base hits at a high rate against righties over the last 30 days.
