Eagles vs. Rams
Sunday, November 24, 2024 – 08:20 PM ET at SoFi Stadium
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles come into Sunday’s game on a six-game winning streak. Their most recent outing was a 26-18 statement win over the Washington Commanders. In that game, RB Saquon Barkley continued his dominating season with 146 yards rushing and two fourth-quarter touchdowns. With Barkley in the fold, the Eagles’ balanced offense has been one of the top offensive attacks in the league.
After the excellent performance against Washington, the Eagles are now first in the NFL in rushing yards at 181.3 rushing yards per game. They are 7th in points scored at 25.9 points per game. The Eagles will look to get their rushing attack going against the Rams 18th ranked rushing defense.
However, the Eagles are not fully reliant on offense to get it done. The Eagles are first in the league in yards allowed at 273.1 yards per game and are 6th in the league in points allowed at 17.9 points per game. In an NFC Conference that is wide open, the Eagles have a great chance to make the Super Bowl this season. They can get one step closer with a victory over the talented Los Angeles Rams in prime time.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are only 5-5, yet that feels like a victory with the number of injuries this team has suffered this season. The Rams are finally getting healthy, however, and are looking to build some momentum. The Rams have won four of their last five games, including a 28-22 win over the New England Patriots last Sunday.
With the Rams’ offense being fully healthy, we can expect more from this team. Currently, the team is 8th in the league in passing yards at 255.7 yards per game. This will continue to improve as long as the Rams can keep their top two wide receivers, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, healthy. The Rams also have an excellent run game, led by RB Kyren Williams. Williams has rushed for 750 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
The Rams have struggled on the defensive end of the ball this season. The Rams are 23rd in the league in overall defense at 350.6 yards per game given up. The Rams do have a talented rookie DL Jared Verse. Overall, they lack the same defensive talent that they had when they were a true Super Bowl contender.
The Rams are getting it done with smoke and mirrors on defense this year, as they are no longer winning the battle in the trenches without Hall of Fame DL Aaron Donald on the team. The Rams will need to shore up their defensive line this offseason. The Rams look to outscore their opponents and that will be their strategy again this Sunday night.
Key Matchup
As with most football games, this game will be won in the trenches. The Rams will have problems stopping the Philadelphia Eagles, so they are going to keep pace with them on offense. The Rams will need a balanced rushing attack and they will be reliant on their offensive line to give Rams QB Matt Stafford time to find his explosive wide receivers. If the Rams are to win this game, it will be in a shootout.
If the Rams’ offense is able to move the ball against the ferocious Philadelphia Eagles front seven, the Rams have a great chance to keep this game close, cover the spread, and maybe even win outright.
If the Eagles’ defensive line can continue their dominant recent stretch of play, the Rams will have problems keeping pace with the high-powered Philadelphia offense.
The Pick
As much as I like the Rams, I think the Eagles’ defense will be too much for this team. The Rams will also have problems stopping the Eagles’ balanced offensive attack. As the season has progressed, the Eagles have improved on defense and look to be better on offense each week. This will be a problem for the struggling Rams’ defense. The Eagles will continue their march toward a dominating playoff position with a decisive prime-time win over the Los Angeles Rams. Add the Philadelphia Eagles -3 to your NFL picks.
