Can The Mariners Make Good Contact?
The Mariners will face Giants’ righty Hayden Birdsong tonight. Birdsong has struggled with high walks and has allowed too much power over the last month. However, he’s also struck out 26.4% of batters during the previous 30 days and has induced 46.5% of ground balls.
If Birdsong can limit walks a bit more, the contact he’s allowing will soon become outs, and he’ll pitch better overall.
San Francisco Can Take Advantage of Castillo
The Mariners will send out Luis Castillo. He’s a righty who has allowed a .203 ISO and wOBA of .357 with 54.2% of hard contact over the last month to lefties.
San Francisco has three lefties with power, including Michael Conforto, Mike Yastrzemski, and Grant McCoy. Those three can take advantage and light up the scoreboard against Castillo.

This should be a fun pitching matchup. But the game should also be close enough where the Giants win +1.5, even with a one-run loss.
