Taking a quick look at Friday’s MLB odds, we can agree that the Athletics have lots of potential to be listed as favorites for tonight’s showdown against the Marlins.
The Athletics As Favorites?
You won’t find the Athletics sitting at -135 on the moneyline often. Yet, they’re currently 15-17 and ahead of many teams in the AL right now. They’re overachieving a little bit, but we’ll take advantage of that.
The A’s have a couple of major power bats against lefties and they’ll face Ryan Weathers of the Marlins, who is a lefty struggling to get righties out this season.
Power-Less Marlins
On the other hand, the Marlins have hit a .115 ISO against lefties since last season using the projected lineup. With J.P. Sears getting the start, it’s unlikely the Marlins will do serious damage against the Athletics’ pitching staff in tonight’s game.
The Pick
The Athletics will be the home team, facing a Marlins squad that has simply struggled to win games this year. The Marlins don’t even have ten wins yet. Let’s back the Athletics at -135.
