Washington Nationals vs. San Diego Padres
Tuesday, June 25, 2024 – 9:40 PM ET at Petco Park
Will Lack Of Strikeouts Hurt MacKenzie Gore?
The Washington Nationals will pitch MacKenzie Gore for tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres. He’s a lefty who has earned 28.7% of strikeouts over the last 30 days. However, he’s also allowed 35.5% of line drives with only 32.9% of ground balls over the last month.
Without strikeouts, Gore stinks. He’ll face a Padres lineup that has only struck out 15.3% of the time against lefties in the last month. Therefore, the Padres will put the ball in play against Gore. When they do that, Gore could fold rather easily.
Adam Mazur Is Way Worse
Meanwhile, the Padres will start tonight’s game with Adam Mazur. He’s a righty who has been much worse than Gore. After all, he’s allowed 19.3% of walks and has tallied just 13.3% of strikeouts over the last 30 days. Additionally, he’s allowed a .373 wOBA and has allowed nearly 27% of line drives.
The Nationals don’t have the most electric offense, but they’ve got more lefties than righties. That should help against Mazur, who has allowed a .464 wOBA to lefties since pitching for the Padres this season.
The Pick
Despite both offenses not having the best seasons, they’ve got great matchups tonight. Let’s back the Over.
