Penguins Starting to Pick up Wins
The Pittsburgh Penguins started the season 3-8, suffering a six-game losing streak early doors. They have since rebuilt their standings and are currently 12-17 overall.
The Penguins still struggle defensively having allowed the most goals per game thus far this season. However, on the bright side, they have started to look much better in recent games and have won 5 of their previous 6 games, including wins over Toronto, Boston and Florida.
Taking a quick look at the travelling Colorado, they are pretty much going how we would have expected, mostly wins with an odd loss or two thrown in. Colorado has been struggling to win as much as they would have liked and currently sits 4th in their division and 8th overall in the Western Conference.
The Avalanche are unlucky enough to be in the same division as three of the top teams in the NHL right now (Winnipeg, Dallas and Minnesota).
The Pick
The Penguins are 8-8 at home this season whilst the travelling Colorado have gone 9-6 on the road. That said, the Penguins have gone on a four-game winning streak on home ice and, as underdogs for this NHL matchup, we are more than happy to get involved with them in this scenario.
The Penguins are +115 NHL betting odds on the moneyline to win five games in a row on home ice. Despite the Avalanche being on a tough opposition, we believe the Penguins have finally started to turn things around and we like the fact they are underdogs here.
This is much more of a 50/50 matchup than the current odds suggest and we would happily bet the Penguins down to as low as +100 to win this game on the moneyline.

Lightning and Goals Come Hand in Hand
Despite the Tampa Bay Lightning having gone 12-10-3 to the total over this season, their games in recent times have seen a lot of goals scored. Seven of their previous eight games has seen at least six goals scored, whilst a further five have seen over 7.5 goals scored.
Taking a look at tonight’s opponents, it has to be said that, on paper, Edmonton is a dream team to bet the over. It has one of the best offences in the league and one of the most average defence/goaltenders. However, it hasn’t exactly worked out like that.
The Oilers are 11-13-3 to the total going over this season, but it must be noted most of their overs have come in recent games with 6 of their previous 7 games seeing at least six goals scored.
If recent head-to-head games between these teams are to be trusted, we are most definitely in for some goals tonight with 11/10 and 8 goals scored in their previous three matchups.
The Pick
We love the 6 line available for this matchup. Given both teams’ explosive offences and weak defences, goals should be on the cards and we believe -115 is more than a fair price for a potential push here.
Both teams have had six and nine goals scored in their previous two games and it must be noted the Oilers are 6-6-2 to the over when playing on home ice, whilst Tampa Bay have a 7-4-1 overall record when playing on the road.
