Ovechkin is Tearing It Up
Alexander Ovechkin is hot on the heels of Wayne Gretzky’s goals record of 894. Ovechkin has scored 892 career goals to date, having upped the ante in recent weeks with a goal in 4 of his previous 5 NHL games.
There is no doubt Ovechkin is going to break the record by the end of this season, and given the opposition tonight, we wouldn’t be surprised if this was Ovechkin’s night. We can see Ovechkin scoring once, maybe even two or three times tonight.
Throughout his career, Ovechkin has scored 30 points in 25 career games against the windy city and already scored one hat-trick against them back in 2022.
Chicago has been one of the poorest defenses this season, and in recent weeks have gone 1-9 and allowed at least four goals in 8 of their previous 10 games.

Although Ovechkin’s main strength is scoring, he has been assisting at a solid rate in recent games, having contributed 27 thus far this season in total, 10 of those have come in the previous 11 games.
We like the current betting odds on Ovechkin to score over 1.5 points on home ice at +100. This is a solid bet in our opinion, and we would happily bet this down to -120. We believe Ovechkin might have two goals in him tonight, and we have the added chance of an assist. It’s a no-brainer, in our opinion.
We believe Ovechkin could get hot tonight, especially because he could be eyeing the opposition up as easy prey for a few points.

Minnesota Badly Needs a Win
The Minnesota Wild have been doing themselves no favors in recent games, having gone 1-5 in their previous six games. This has left them just about clinging onto a playoff spot, and luckily for them, the two biggest threats to them right now have gone 2-3 in their previous five NHL games.
The Wild will still likely make the playoffs but will be looking to improve their form toward the back end of the regular season. It won’t be easy for them to go from losing most games prior to the post-season to then just turn it on for a series.
The Minnesota Wild badly need a win.
As for their opposition, New York, they have been struggling even more so than the Wild in recent weeks, having gone 3-7 in their previous 10 games. The Wild have also lost six in a row prior to tonight’s game. The Islanders have a slim chance of making the post-season, but at the moment, it’s still possible; six losses in a row won’t have helped matters.
The Pick
The New York islanders might still be able to make the playoffs, while the Wild are currently in the playoffs. You might argue that the Islanders need the win more, but given how bad they are right now, it’s impossible to believe they can win.
Minnesota might be the road team here, but we would take them any day at plus money on the road against an Islanders team who is in a 0-6 slump. Minnesota is on the moneyline at +105, but we would happily bet down to -105.
Minnesota is 7-3 in their previous ten against the Islanders; more importantly, they’re 7-0 in their previous seven.
