Dylan Cease’s Regression
The San Diego Padres will send out Dylan Cease for tonight’s NLDS game against the Dodgers. Cease is a right-handed pitcher who has held 763 batters to a .132 ISO and wOBA of .268.
However, over the last month, he’s allowed a .330 wOBA to his last 50 lefties and has only struck out 18.4% of righties.
He’s also allowed 56.5% of hard contact and has given up more than 26% of line drives with 27.5% of fly balls. The Dodgers, with a lineup that has hit a .364 wOBA against righties, have plenty of potential to put some runs on the board.
Lack Of Patience Can Hurt Padres
San Diego has only walked 6.3% of the time against righties over the last month. That’s not ideal with a matchup against ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Yamamoto has only walked 5.8% of batters this season and has struck out nearly 29% of batters. If he can get ahead in counts early, the Padres will struggle to find any success offensively.
While Yamamoto has struggled a bit against righties recently, there’s a good chance he can at least get by the lefties in the lineup to limit damage.
