While many people are preparing for the NFL, we’ll still attack the MLB slates daily. With a full 15-game slate on the horizon, we asked our computers for their favorite three picks for tonight’s slate. Here’s one of three bets you’ll want to consider, with the best MLB odds we could find at top sportsbooks.
The AI Model projects the Padres and Rockies will combine for only 10.3 runs. However, Caesars has the total stuck at 11. The Under is the play for tonight’s matchup in Coors Field.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
Saturday, August 17, 2024 – 08:10 PM ET at Coors Field
Who Will Connect Against Cease?
The Padres are in line to start Dylan Cease. Cease is a right-handed pitcher who threw a no-hitter two weeks ago.
In addition, Cease has struck out 32% of batters over the last month and has limited his last 100 batters to a .078 ISO and wOBA of .187 over the last month.
Meanwhile, every single batter in the Rockies’ projected lineup has struck out at least 21.7% of the time over the last month against righties. The lineup combined has struck out 27.5% of the time over the last month against righties.
Cease will blow the Rockies away with his stuff.
Freeland Won’t Let Us Down
Kyle Freeland will take the hill for the Rockies. He’s a lefty who has allowed a .273 ISO and wOBA of .363 to his last 105 batters. However, Freeland has also earned nearly 25% of strikeouts and has walked just 4.8% of batters.
He’s a strike thrower who will occasionally earn a strikeout or two. While he likely won’t outduel Cease, he’ll do enough to keep this game under the total.
MLB Computer Pick
It’s usually wise to back the Under in a Dylan Cease start. Thank the AI Model when this one hits.
