Update 7/15: J.D. Vance has been selected by former Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump as his running mate for the 2024 U.S. Election. Vance was trading at +120 to +200.
The 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) is set to kick off in Milwaukee on July 15. One of the anticipated moments is the announcement by Donald Trump of who his running mate for vice president will be in the upcoming 2024 US presidential election.
Top betting sites in countries where political bets are legal, such as Canada and the UK, have offered odds on this race for months. Several Republicans have been the favorite, and Trump, looking to move on from the attention of his legal battles, is expected to make his important decision soon.
Before he does that, let’s take a look at the latest odds on who could be the Republican nominee for vice president in 2024.

---|---|---|---|---|
Doug Burgum | +110 | 47.62% | +120 | 45.45% |

Tim Scott | +6000 | 1.64% | +5000 | 1.96% |
The latest odds appear to make this a 3-man race between North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Florida’s senior Senator Marco Rubio, and Ohio’s junior Senator J.D. Vance. Former favorite, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, is in 6th place with +1400 odds at SportsInteraction.
Doug Burgum or J.D. Vance?
The oddsmakers at SportsInteraction give Doug Burgum and J.D. Vance the best chance of being Trump’s VP with +200 odds each. We know full loyalty to Trump will be the No. 1 consideration for this pick, and both politicians have shown a lot of pro-Trump views with both having fundraisers scheduled with Trump this summer.
Burgum could have the edge here as someone with plenty of experience as he has 28 years on Vance, who will turn 40 in August. Burgum is one of the richest governors in the country with a background in software as a former employee at Microsoft.
Burgum is currently an advisor in Trump’s campaign on energy policy, and his history as an analytical businessman in real estate development and software venture capital will fit in well with Trump’s bolder personality and bravado.
As for Vance, he too is a venture capitalist who rose to fame as the author of the book Hillbilly Elegy, a memoir about his family’s tough Ohio upbringing. He has been a rising star in the party, and while he initially criticized former President Trump after the release of his book, he has been fully on board with the MAGA movement since getting heavily into politics and being elected to Senate in Ohio in 2022.
Vance may lack experience, but youth could be a virtue in this election between the oldest candidates to ever run for president. His Ohio roots also could be helpful in reaching out to voters in nearby states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania, always a couple of key states to win in the election.

Kristi Noem’s Social Media Accounts Disappear
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a former favorite to be Trump’s VP pick, is back in the news after users noticed that her official social media accounts on sites like Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) were no longer active. Noem’s personal X account (@KristiNoem) still exists, but she has been quiet on it this week.
Some took this as a sign that the Governor was going to be Trump’s VP pick after she quickly fell out of favor a few months ago when news broke that her upcoming book included a story about killing her “dangerous” 14-month-old dog Cricket.
However, there is no official explanation for Noem’s accounts disappearing, and her VP odds remain a huge longshot. Governor Noem’s odds are a mere +3300 at SportsInteraction while the Canadian branch of Bet365 (check our Bet365 Review) has her way down at +10000.
Don’t Forget Marco Rubio
The other candidate to watch is Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who has +600 odds at top-rated sportsbooks. He has past beef with Trump when both ran for president in 2016, but “Little Marco” has largely voted in line with the 45th president and has been out supporting him, including an appearance together at a rally in Florida last week.
A Rubio selection would force the Senator to move his residency out of Florida as a ticket cannot include 2 people from the same state, and we know Trump is not moving.
First, we’ll have to see if Rubio joins the ticket, because he could help Trump with Hispanic voters and on foreign policy.
