The Avalanche dropped their first game of the opening series to the Winnipeg Jets, 7-6, but their defense tightened up and Colorado won the next four games and dispatched the Jets in five games. Avalanche superstar, Nathan MacKinnon, leads the team with nine points and had a pair of assists in the team’s 6-3 Game 5 victory over Winnipeg.
Colorado outscored Winnipeg, 28-15, in the five-game series and Alexandar Georgiev rebounded nicely after a woeful Game 1 in which he allowed seven goals on 23 shots. Since that game, Georgiev went on to hold the Jets to just two goals per game.
The Pick
This is the prototypical offense-against-defense matchup with the Avalanche leading the league in scoring during the regular season (3.68 goals per game) and now in the postseason (5.60 GPG). The Stars don’t have the offensive wherewithal to compete with the Avalanche in a shootout.
Considering Dallas barely escaped their opening series in a narrow Game 7 victory on Sunday night against Vegas, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Stars a bit sluggish coming out of the box on Tuesday night against the well-rested Avalanche who last played on April 30th.
