Not only are the Sharks walking into the flames here, but so could we with our pick when it comes to the stats. So, let’s hope our better judgment can overcome the stats in this one.
We believe the Flames can cover the spread in tonight’s game as favorites but they will have to overcome the fact they have the 27th worst PK line record in the NHL, with the Sharks having had the 28th worst.
That said, we believe the Sharks are so bad right now (especially on the road), that we originally wanted to consider the Flames -2.5 at +170, and we do like that pick a lot for those odds, as we would bet it down to +150.
The Pick
Seeing as the value was nice on the -2.5, we also found the value to be appealing with the line set by top-rated sportsbooks at -1.5 for -110 NHL betting odds. The Calgary Flames are not amazing, but how bad are the San Jose Sharks? Very bad.
Calgary’s biggest issue with covering will be their own defensive frailties, but they still should be alright considering the Sharks struggle to score goals. Even the Flames average 0.80 more goals per game than them this season.
