 Detroit Tigers vs. Houston Astros
Tuesday, October 01, 2024 – 02:32 PM ET at Minute Maid Park
The AI Model likes the Astros to earn a 4.3-3.6 win over the Tigers in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card matchup in Houston. Although both teams will throw their left-handed aces, the Astros have been the more consistent offense.
The Astros Aren’t Easy
Tarik Skubal will give it a go for the Tigers in Game 1 of this series. He’ll likely win the AL Cy Young Award and ultimately had the best season in the American League for pitchers. However, he won’t have it easy against the Astros.
Houston’s lineup has hit a .357 wOBA against lefties and has five batters who have struck out below 20% of the time against lefties over the last 30 days. The Astros are also patient and don’t chase pitches early in the count. Six of the nine projected batters have walked at least 8.7% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days.
Houston will make Skubal work; eventually, Skubal will have to come out of the game.
Framber’s Better Matchup
The Astros will throw their top-tier lefty today, too. Framber Valdez has held his last 105 batters to a .116 ISO and wOBA of .263 over the previous month. Valdez has earned nearly 69% of ground balls over the last 30 days and will face a Tigers lineup that has hit a .099 ISO and wOBA of .279 with 31.1% of strikeouts.
Detroit’s lineup is way worse than Houston’s, and Framber has pitched just as well as Skubal over the last 30 days.

Let’s take a chance with the Astros at -150 in Game 1 of this Wild Card series.
