After two massive NLDS Game 2’s that resulted in many runs, we’re headed to today’s slate for the ALDS Game 2 matchups. The Tigers and Guardians will be the first matchup, followed by the Royals and Yankees.

Below, I’ve provided a pick for the first matchup using our AI Model’s projections. Let’s have a day at the top-rated sportsbooks!

Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians

Monday, October 07, 2024 – 04:08 PM ET at Progressive Field

The AI Model believes the Guardians will add a 4.1-3.4 win over the Tigers this afternoon. The Guardians are already up 1-0 in the series but are underdogs in Game 2 since they’re facing Tarik Skubal. Still, the model doesn’t seem to care. The best play in this game is the Guardians at +110.

Bet Against Tarik Skubal?

It’s hard even to consider betting against this year’s likely AL Cy Young, Tarik Skubal. That said, Skubal is facing a Guardians lineup that has still hit a .217 ISO and wOBA of .353 against lefties over the last month. The lineup has more players hitting an ISO of at least .167 than not. It’s also got seven batters averaging at least a .328 wOBA against lefties over the last month.

In addition, Cleveland has five batters who have walked at least 9.1% of the time against lefties. These guys know how to work counts and battle to get Skubal out of the game earlier.

Detroit’s Offense Is Lame

The Detroit Tigers have hit a .077 ISO and wOBA of .284 with 30.4% of strikeouts against lefties over the last 30 days. Only Riley Greene has an ISO above .138 against lefties in today’s projected lineup, and only two players have a wOBA of at least .312 or higher against lefties.

Matthew Boyd hasn’t been perfect. However, he’s racking up strikeouts against righties and will take on more righties than lefties in the Detroit lineup.

It’s also a game against his former team, which should have amped Boyd even more. In addition, Boyd has only thrown against 166 batters this season due to Tommy John Surgery last season. He’s got a lot in the tank after resting for over a year. He’ll bring it.

The Pick

I’ll side with the AI Model and back the Guardians at +110, even on the road, in today’s showdown. If this game gets tight toward the end, when the starters are out, I’d much rather have a Guardians ticket.
