NHL Pick: Kings/Oilers Over 5.5 Goals (-140) at Bet365
Wednesday’s Top NHL Picks
- Islanders vs. Hurricanes – Under 5.5 (-140)
- Kings vs. Oilers – Over 5.5 (-140)
Using our NHL computer picks we were able to place tonight’s bets based on the information generated.
Another nice night on the ice going 1-1 we now bring the Computer picks up to 3-1 for the NHL playoffs.
Our computer has been predicting some low-scoring affairs thus far, but we don’t mind as it’s cashed for us all three times this post-season. Tonight we are targeting two of the four games on the board.
New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Wednesday, April 19, 2023 – 07:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena
Islanders Road Form Needs Improvement
The NY Islanders have now lost four road games in a row going 0-4 and have seen just 8 victories from their previous 25 away games. They struggled to convert on any of their powerplays in game one and it’s likely to be another issue tonight as these problems don’t fix themselves.
Luckily for the Islanders, they have Ilya Sorokin in the crease, he saved 35 of 37 shots faced, but he can only do so much, the offense needs to start producing.
Carolina Looking to Take Control
Carolina is 10-5 in their previous 15 home games and has now won back-to-back games 2-1 on home ice against the Islanders. A rare sight indeed.
The Hurricanes are like the Islanders, except for a much more prolific offense, they are very strong defensively and allowed the league’s second-lowest amount of goals at 2.55 per game. The Hurricanes converted both their goals in game one on the powerplay.
The Pick
As we stated these two teams ended back-to-back games 2-1 and surprise, surprise our computer is predicting the same scoreline again tonight. Honestly, we would be shocked if it did end 2-1 (to the Carolina Hurricanes). That said the current odds on this exact scoreline is +2200 with some sportsbooks.
Despite being weary of this scoreline hitting for a third time in a row, we do like the computer’s prediction of only three goals being scored. We like the under 5.5 goals yet again here, in game one we said we wouldn’t be surprised to see every game in the series go under the total.
Remember these two teams have the 2nd and 4th best records to the under in the regular season.
Predicted Score: Islanders 1 – 2 Hurricanes
NHL Pick: Under 5.5 Goals (-140) at Caesars Sportsbook
Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers
Wednesday, April 19, 2023 – 10:00 PM EDT at Rogers Place
Kings Holding Their Own in Edmonton
The Kings came into this arena in game one of the playoffs last year and took a shock underdog victory and the California team did it yet again as they now head into game two leading the series.
The Kings have now won 5 of their previous 10 games in Edmonton and impressively covered the +1.5 spread in 7 of those 10.
Oilers Bounced Back From This Exact Scenario Last Season
Just like last season, Edmonton came into the first game of the playoffs on home ice against the L.A. Kings and lost on the night. Last season, Edmonton took it all the way to seven games before eventually disposing of the L.A. Kings.
The Oilers are a much better team than they were last season and they should be well-equipped to turn this round. That said a loss tonight could send panic across the organization as they would then face two games in Los Angeles being down 2-0 on the series.
The Pick
These two teams rank 1st and 4th on the powerplay this season and rank as the 9th and 13th worst penalty killers. That’s about all we need to know when looking at -140 juice for an over 5.5 goals line in this matchup.
The Kings scored 3 of their 4 goals on the powerplay in game one, it’s the Oilers’ turn tonight to get some extra-man goals. Our computer predicts seven goals tonight, we will happily take six and cash this over.
Predicted Score: Kings 3 – Oilers 4
NHL Pick: Over 5.5 Goals (-140) at Bet365
