USFL Week 5 Odds: Point Spreads, Lines, Results for Every Week 4 Game

The first month of the inaugural 2022 USFL season is in the books. Some of our expectations about the on-field product have been met while others have certainly been exceeded.

More importantly, we’re looking to earn a profit each week. We’re hoping Week 5 brings as much success for gamblers as it did with the first month.

OddsTrader’s Betting Edge

• The New Orleans Breakers enter Week 5 with the second-most points scored and second-least points allowed.

• The Michigan Panthers score over 20 in two straight weeks.

• The lack of playmaking talent is still apparent, though, and they’re going to struggle to win a single game all year.

• The Tampa Bay Bandits have only lost against the league’s two best teams.

Our full coverage of the USFL season continues as we’re recapping the results from Week 4 and previewing the point spreads and lines of Week 5.

USFL Week 4 Results

New Orleans Breakers 23 – Houston Gamblers 16

Just how much are the Houston Gamblers struggling? They were given the ball four times against New Orleans and still lost. The New Orleans Breakers are their own worst enemy sometimes but they have the scoring ability to make up for it. They enter Week 5 with the second-most points scored and second-least points allowed.

Meanwhile, Houston’s offense couldn’t continue to move the ball and convert third downs. That was always the concern when they selected quarterback Kyle Sloter. Sloter has such a limited arm and mindset that the offense will rarely thrive under pressure.

The Breakers continue forward with a 3-1 record and as a dangerous team just behind the undefeated Stallions.

Philadelphia Stars 26 – Michigan Panthers 25

Michigan was cruising along with the league’s best defense and a middling offense. We’re not surprised they lost, but to give up so many points to Stars backup quarterback Case Cookus is shocking. Cookus had shown some promise as a low-efficiency but big-play threat in his previous playing time.

This is a devastating loss for the Panthers. The last-second field goal was missed by Michigan despite it being just 21 yards. A controversial catch set up the chip shot field goal.

This is a game that can change expectations for both teams in a positive manner. We’ve now seen the Panthers score over 20 in two straight weeks. And the Stars needed this game and walked out with a win.

New Jersey Generals 21 – Pittsburgh Maulers 13

The combination of quarterbacks Luis Perez and De’Andre Johnson continues to work. Now 3-1, New Jersey is an interesting case study in the USFL. They run their offense their way and have embraced this unique attack.

Pittsburgh is a betting hero this week as they covered the nine-point spread. They’re looking more comfortable and competent in the trenches after being bulldozed in the first two weeks. The lack of playmaking talent is still apparent, though, and they’re going to struggle to win a single game all year.

This was a bit of a slogging game since the Generals couldn’t produce many big plays. They simply picked the Maulers apart.

Birmingham Stallions 16 – Tampa Bay Bandits 10

The lone unbeaten left in the USFL continues to roll. The 4-0 Stallions have now beaten everyone once, this time thanks to an excellent defensive performance. Former Arizona Wildcats star linebacker Scooby Wright led a second-half effort that saw Tampa Bay produce just 36 yards.

This was the first time the Stallions scored under 20 points, but that’s almost more impressive because the defense has really improved their ability to create impact plays. Unfortunately, for Tampa Bay, this game also exposed their issues hunting big plays.

The Bandits have only lost against the league’s two best teams. That pits them awkwardly into the middle of the pack.
