Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees
Tuesday, October 28, 2024 – 08:08 PM ET at Yankee Stadium
Who Will The Dodgers Turn To?
The Dodgers could throw six or more pitchers in tonight’s game. It’ll be hard to identify matchups clearly in this one.
However, the Yankees’ projected lineup has hit a .160 ISO and wOBA of .306 against righties over the last month. The exact same lineup has also hit a .139 ISO and wOBA of .363 against lefties in the previous 30 days.
The big issue is Aaron Judge. Judge has struck out at a super high rate over the last month and has shown little power throughout the postseason. He had a monumental season, but it’s been washed away now that he’s facing top-tier pitching.
Facing a bullpen should only help Judge get back on track. Though, it might be too late. Judge has hit a .265 wOBA against his last 49 batters. He’s also struck out 38.8% of the time. He’s one of four batters with a low ISO and wOBA in the previous 30 days.
Typically, that won’t get the job done to win a World Series.
Luis Gil’s Turn With The Yankees
The Yankees will actually turn to a starting pitcher. That usually would give the Yankees an advantage.
However, the Dodgers look better on offense with Luis Gil on the mound. After all, Gil has allowed a .351 ISO and wOBA of .381 to his last 42 batters. He’s struggled against righties and lefties and has allowed 50% of fly balls with only 16.7% of ground balls in the previous 30 days.
The Dodgers are a complete offense. In the last 30 days, the team has struck out only 17.6% of the time against righties and has hit a .178 ISO. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy are the two hottest hitters against righties over the last month. However, Freddie Freeman has become the team’s top player in the World Series. In addition, Shohei Ohtani was injured with a shoulder injury in Game 2 but still played in Game 3. He’s also added a high ISO and wOBA against righties over the last month.
Throughout the season, Gil was worse against lefties, allowing a .179 ISO and wOBA of .313 to 317 lefties. However, over the last 30 days, righties have hit a .600 ISO and wOBA of .452 against Gil.
There are ways to attack Gil from both sides of the box.
The Pick
You’d like to think the Yankees would show some fight and at least win one game at home before the World Series ends. But I’ve said this throughout the entire World Series: the Dodgers are the better team in every aspect.
The National League was ultimately the harder division in the MLB. The Yankees’ road to the World Series wasn’t easy. But the Dodgers had to get through the Padres and Mets, who would’ve likely also beaten the Yankees in the World Series if it came down to it.
New York’s offense was never very consistent this year. Add on the fact that New York’s MVP, Aaron Judge, has been super silent, and it’s impossible to believe the Yankees will win the World Series this year. It’s hard to imagine they’ll even win a game.
The Dodgers are elite in every way. They’ve found a way to make the World Series with multiple bullpen games. They’ve had a handful of starters injured and have dealt with many other injuries but still stayed the course.
The $1,000,000,000+ paid in the offseason is finally paying its dividends. Take the Dodgers at +122 and the Over 8.5. This series will be clinched tonight.
