Can Gerrit Cole Come Through In The Clutch?
The New York Yankees will roll with Gerrit Cole tonight. The right-hander has held his last 96 batters to a .047 ISO and wOBA of .231 and has walked only 6.2% of batters over the last month.
However, he’s allowed 31.9% of fly balls and 24.6% of line drives. He’s also given up nearly 48% of hard contact and has earned below 9% of swinging strikes. Cole hasn’t been elite. He’s actually been kind of lucky that his ISO and wOBA have been lower recently.
Meanwhile, the Royals are typically patient at the plate. Kansas City’s projected lineup has walked 10.3% of the time against righties over the last month. The team has also hit a wOBA of .301, which isn’t good but proves there’s still some potential in the lineup.
Aaron Judge Will Finally Do Something
The Yankees aren’t getting much production from Aaron Judge this postseason. The right-hander carried the Yankees into the postseason but hasn’t found that same spark since they got here.
That’ll probably change tonight.
Judge has still smoked a .429 ISO and wOBA of .486 over the last month against righties. Tonight, he and the Yankees will battle Michael Wacha of the Royals, who has allowed a .176 ISO and wOBA of .331 to his last 41 righties. These aren’t horrible numbers, but they’re certainly not good.
Giancarlo Stanton is another right-hander in the Yankees lineup who is red-hot and can find power against Wacha.
