There are plenty of NHL player props out there at the top sportsbooks and it’s worth checking them all out to find your own niche, with that said here are three profitable NHL bets on player props that we have been successful with over the years.

In this article, we will show you which stats to look out for and which website you can use to find these stats.

Anytime Goalscorer

One of our favorite and most profitable player props to bet on is the anytime goalscorer market. The reason it’s been so kind to us is because more often than not, you are getting plus money odds. Only on rare occasions do we find ourselves laying juice with this market, and even then it’s generally never any more than -110/-120.

Consider the Stats

So how do we go about picking and choosing our anytime goalscorers on any given night? It’s all about value and timing or both. The best website to use for your research and stats in our opinion is ESPN.

This website completely breaks down a lot of stats for not only every single team but also every single player, from their recent performances to which teams they have already scored against this season, to how many shots they take per game, etc.

The website very easily gives you the top goalscorers in any given season, and this is generally where we look first for our potential goalscorer, as it makes sense to target the league’s top-scoring players.

Another angle to take when looking at any time goalscorers is identifying a poor defensive team, they might not necessarily be facing a top goalscorer but this is also where we can find some nice value winners.

Maybe target the opposing team’s top scorer if he is facing a poor defensive team. In general, players know when they’re facing a poor defensive team, and the top scorers like to try their best to get on the scoreboard.

Over/Under Shots

Although you will mostly be laying juice with this prop market, you can look to take some alternative lines that do come up at nice odds. For example tonight you can bet on Alex Ovechkin over 4.5 shots for -110, yet his over 5.5 shot line is as high as +125 NHL betting odds.

Targeting alternative lines is best when looking for value, especially when you have players who average a lot of shots per game and are matching up against a team who have a poor record or happens to allow a lot of shots against per game.

Again all this information can be found on the ESPN website as it gives you stats for how many shots players average per game and how many shots each team takes and allows per game. When targeting the set line made by the sportsbooks, you will likely be laying juice, and sometimes a lot, as we have often taken -135/-140 when it comes to the shots market.

Look at Matchup History

With this market, it’s best to target players who average a lot of shots per game, but also certain players seem to be more successful against certain teams so do your research. Another angle worth looking into is if a team’s top shot taker is missing, it might be worth looking into their next best as there can often be some value here or soft total shot lines set by the sportsbooks.

Over/Under Points

This is one of our favorite markets for NHL player prop betting. For those unaware, points are when a player scores a goal or assists a goal, and this can be very helpful when it comes to certain players as some score a lot; others assist a lot, but there are a small few who do both regularly and with these players, it can be sometimes hard to tell if they’re going to score or assist on any given night or end up with both.

With some of the top players, you’re looking at around -120 to +150 NHL betting odds to score over 1.5 points per game depending on the opposition on the day. There will be players who have a 0.5 line, meaning just one goal or one assist will cash for you but in general, this line is heavily juiced.

With this market. we find it best to target players who are one of the top points scorers in the league but also when facing weaker opposition as they’re more likely to get opportunities to get on the scoreboard.
