England vs. Nigeria

Monday, August 7, 2023 – 03:30 AM EDT at Suncorp Stadium

England

Group D table toppers England have sailed through the World Cup 2023 opposition thus far, and after a lack of goals in their first two outings, corrections were made last time out as they dismantled China 6-1.

More impressively, it took England just 4 minutes to get on the scoresheet against China, and at halftime, they’d already taken a 3-0 lead. This marked England’s third consecutive game in which they’ve scored one goal before the six-minute mark, and they’re now prime candidates to send a lower-ranked Nigerian squad packing.

Nigeria

Nigeria managed to finish in the second position of Group B. Still, a pair of 0-0 stalemates versus Canada and Ireland didn’t display the attacking threats needed to make the Lionesses fearful. They’ll now face England in the round of 16, a team that’s undefeated in 34 of their last 35 games in all competitions.

That said, Nigeria is unbeaten in six successive games, including friendlies, and we don’t expect them to roll over with a six-goal deficit like China did. However, the caliber of opponents they’ve faced hasn’t been close to that of England, as all signs point towards the end of the World Cup road for the Super Falcons this Monday.

Women’s World Cup Playoff Prediction, Odds, & Trends

The current odds unsurprisingly favor England with a significant margin in the money line price.

We believe Nigeria can prevent England from running riot. Still, early leads for the Lionesses is a common trend and will result in a defensive game for the second half as they attempt to seal a position in the quarterfinals.

Score Prediction: England 2 – Nigeria 0

Supporting Trends

  • England won at HT/FT in all three of their World Cup 2023 group-stage games.
  • Nigeria has failed to lead a game at the 2023 World Cup in 211 of 248 total minutes.

Soccer Pick: England Halftime/Fulltime (-110) at Bet365

Australia vs. Denmark

Saturday, August 7, 2023 – 06:30 AM EDT at Stadium Australia

Australia

The home support of tournament co-hosts Australia was delighted when the floodgates opened against Canada last time out. A 4-0 success warned the remaining teams as the Aussie ladies topped Group B, but we cannot neglect the shock 3-2 defeat they suffered against Nigeria in their second game of the competition.

Overall, Australia’s women possess a respectable record, winning 11 of their previous 13 games in all competitions. However, they haven’t competed against the World’s top-ranked squads at major tournaments often, and when they do, it’s usually a miserable result.

Denmark

Denmark is, by no means, one of those top-ranked squads we previously mentioned. However, consistency in defense has allowed this squad to win 6 of their most recent 8 games in all competitions.

Furthermore, Denmark has seen under 2.5 goals in six consecutive games in all competitions, and under 1.5 goals landed in five of those meetings. Win or lose; they often provide tight scorelines due to a robust back four.

Women’s World Cup Playoff Prediction, Odds, & Trends

Unsurprisingly, the books slightly favor the home nation, but it’s difficult to ignore the defensive structure Denmark has displayed over the past twelve months.

The total is juiced to the under at -167 for a reason, and we’re willing to pay this price to back a trend that’s heavily supported by a respectable Denmark back line.

Score Prediction: Australia 0 – Denmark 1

Supporting Trends

  • Denmark has seen under 2.5 goals in six straight games in all competitions.
  • Denmark has seen under 1.5 goals in 4 of their previous 6 games in all competitions.

Soccer Pick: Under 2.5 Goals (-167) at Bet365
