Can Russell Get Redemption at the Wyndham?
After what happened to Russell Henley at the 2021 Wyndham Championship when he blew a four-shot 54-hole lead, perhaps this year is a good one for redemption.
The thirty-four-year-old from Georgia has had a supremely consistent golfer with the highlight being a 4th place finish at the Masters. That consistency sees Henley at 33rd on the FedEx standings of the 2022/2023 season with nine top-25s from twenty PGA events and a win at the World Wide Technology Championship in the fall of 2022.
It would have surprised me if Henley managed to get redemption in 2022 as the scares of defeat would still be raw but he still finished a creditable 5th, having been 9th in 2020 to prove his growing affinity with Sedgefield Country Club.
I believe Russell Henley returns to the Wyndham Championship a stronger player and better equipped than ever to win an event that will not prejudice his lack of length but rather fits his remit of the strong tee-to-green game and solid putting.
